The student is pursuing her second-year industrial training course. Her father suffers from alcoholism and does not contribute to the household income and her mother has health issues that have prevented her from taking up employment. The family lives in a small house in a remote hilly area. Aalayam conducted an interview with the industrial training institute's principal. He said the student is doing well academically and that there are good opportunities for those who graduate from the institute, especially for women candidates. Openings are available in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board sub-stations for women candidates under a quota
The principal said there is a shortage of qualified women electricians and so students with the ITI certificates are welcomed into these district-specific openings. The student has cleared her semester examinations for the last year.
